A lunching lady

When's the last time you prepared lunch during the week?....Yeah, me neither. I can count on one hand how many times I packed a lunch in the past 5 years. Since it's so easy to eat out there's really little motivation to concern oneself with yet another task of preparing for tomorrow after a long day at work. And again first thing in the morning.

Well, in the name of frugality and creativity I have decided to return to preparing a lunchbox. In the photo you see my first attempt at making up a bento box. There's rice, an umeboshi plum, egg roll, pickled daikon, green beans and carrot salad in sesame vinaigrette, and wee meatballs with Bulldog sauce. Everything was made by me mostly during the weekend (except the umeboshi, of course), and prepared groggily this morning. It's true I have way more time on my hands these days to indulge in preparing for lunch, but I hope building the habit now will come in handy when time is much more pressing.

Amanda's breakfast

If only all of us could be so lucky first thing in the morning. Personally I'm lucky to get a bowl of cereal down my belly.

Butter and heavy cream scones prepared by Ms. Amanda herself, aged cheddar (looks like white to me), red clover Elfsong honey from the Niagra area, and mystery cherry jam.

Drool drool.

Welcome et bienvenue to our blog!

It looks a little empty right now but hopefully in a few weeks time we will start to populate it with comments, photos, recipes, some Q + A, interesting articles, gourmand miscellany, etc.

For the time being I will just reiterate some items previously discussed in emails I have sent you all...

Partners in crime
You all have partners now and hopefully you are in the midsts of contacting each other and developing some ideas, plus exchanging the obvious (eg. addresses and allergies).

Next up
After you have completed your exchange with your partner, which should take no longer than 3 months, we will switch partners. My current logic for the current pairings was to be as geographically diverse as possible. However, I would be more than happy to change that strategy and would be open to suggestions from you all.

That is it for now.
Again, let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Bonne échange!
